A 5 Step System
Step 1: Foundation
What is the foundation of a screenplay? How does the formatting and structure play a role in creating a solid base for a screenplay.
Step 2: Story
Once the Foundation is set, the elements of the story can come alive. Scenes, montages, flashbacks, suplots, and developmental beats create the arc of the story.
Step 3: Characters
So many characters. Understanding the nuances between a hero and an anti-hero, a villain and an obstacle, a sidekick and a love interest. These are just some of the elements of creating good characters.
Step 4: Voice
Every character needs to have their own voice. How do they sound? What makes dialogue sing? Not only that, the story as a whole needs to have its own voice. The tone and the message must capture the writer's true intent.
Step 5: Coverage
The final step. Being able to write an expert coverage that not only covers what happens in the story but also reveals what works in the script and what needs attention. This is your calling card.
